In 2007 the NSA the launched a program called PRISM. PRISM is currently responsible for 91% of NSA’s internet traffic acquired through the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978. Laura Poitras (My Country, My Country), a Berlin (Zeit) residing, american film director and recipient of the 2012 MacArthur Genius Fellowship and co-recipient of the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service, made an extraordinary character study and intelligent piece of cinema called “Citizen four(TRAILER). The 2015 Oscar nominated for Documentary feature (full list) film is Executive Produced by Steven Soderbergh. Poitras was several years into making a film about surveillance in the post-9/11 era, where at a certain moment she started receiving encrypted e-mails from someone identifying himself as “citizen four.“ This person was ready to blow the whistle on the massive covert surveillance programs run by the NSA and other intelligence agencies.
