Known for having developed the first commercial anti-virus program/software McAfee. McAfee goes off the grid to live in Belize, building a compound with harem, gets himself involved with local gangsters, and went into hiding when his neighbor American expatriate Gregory Viant Faull was murdered. Americans’ fascination with McAfee’s adventure has prompted extensive coverage in USA TODAY, Wired, NBC, CNN, the Showtime documentary and as-yet finished documentary on Spike TV. The Showtime documentary’s charges go farther than anything reported to date. On the surface, they seem a stretch but not implausible. (Jon Swartz , USA TODAY)
McAfee himself described the documentary as fiction.
McAfee recently tweeted that he was “going to war against Showtime,” and called the film “fraudulent.” He also posted a video on YouTube of some of the people interviewed in “Gringo,” saying the filmmakers paid them to say McAfee had committed the crimes discussed. (Stephanie Marcus – HuffPo)
