“We have a McDonald’s generation of music consumers”
says German film composer Hans Zimmer, in the July 10th 2014 internet released documentary short called The Distortion of Sound. The Doc. filled with fresh insights, features Quincy Jones, Snoop Dogg, Slash, Steve Aoki, Kate Nash et al. They point out that with the loss of physical formats and present compressed music, MP3s and streaming services like Youtube, Spotify and Pandora, the consumption of music lost a lot of its quality: with compressed music you lose 90% of the actual song quality: sense of realism, dynamics, and detail. Fact: To date more then 25 billion (13-02-2013 – Itunes) songs have been downloaded and 50 billion hours of music have been streamed (Pandora + Youtube + Spotify). And we can say that music is reaching more people than ever before because of these platforms. I think that with time technology would allow higher speed and reduce the need for compression. The doc. is presented by a public American audio and infotainment equipment company called Harman, Infinity and Clari-fi. But I personally recommend looking into HRA download sites, such as Audiostream, iTrax, HDTracks and Neil Young’s PONO Music…Now we just wait for the proper smart phones with the right HRA files and FLAC build in players.
